Drought in Maine, Writing Well, Striking it Rich, Learning BJJ, Minestrone Soup
Things sure are getting dry here in Maine. That's not stopping me from writing though, or discussing investments, BJJ, and cooking.
It’s been another fantastic week of blogging for me here in Maine. I was actually looking back at some of my previous posts from years past a few nights ago and reflected upon how much I’ve changed. Nothing crazy, but just a year ago, I wrote posts that would use just about two loose-leaf pieces of paper if I were handwriting them. Now I’m writing posts that would use upwards of 10. I’ll confess that each post’s length primarily depends on the topic. For instance, how much can a guy write about what the weather in Maine feels like in August? Not so much. But when it comes to investing in the S&P 500, I can go on for hours. I can also go on and on when I write about writing. I love that too.
For this week’s roundup, I discuss our lawn’s dry, crispy grass, how to set your mind to land the perfect writing gig, why it takes only $100k (or maybe even less if your timing is right) to make a million, whether or not it’s difficult to learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and I’ll even share one of my favorite minestrone soup recipes.

Drought in Maine?
This summer began nice and cool. It even seemingly rained more often than not. I’m not sure why, but I’m always shocked by how quickly things can change. While we experienced above-average rainfall for June, I’m not sure if we had a substantial rainfall at all in July - one that allowed the ground to fully absorb the water, anyway. I’m probably wrong here, but my grass is telling me I’m not. Like everyone else, we’re seeing big, dry, brown patches in our lawn.
Becoming a Desirable Online Writer
There have been countless articles written for new writers who are trying their damndest to break into the scene. Imagine being a new college grad, dreaming of writing for your favorite online publication. Pretty easy, right? Just get out there and start writing. Well, it’s not so easy. It’ll actually take a lot of work just to get someone to listen to you tell them how great you are.
You Need Only $100k to Become Wealthy
I wish someone had gotten hold of me when I was 18 years old, sat me down, tied my hands behind my back, and forced me to read this post. I wonder if knowing then what I know now would have altered the trajectory of my life. It’s fun to think about. If you’re under 30 years old, I implore you to read this post. For your own sake - please.
Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) Difficult to Learn?
The bottom line is this: if you put in the effort, you’ll learn BJJ. Yes, you’ll get beat up a lot and you’ll want to quit more times than you’ll want to go to class, but you’ll definitely learn. All it takes is showing up to roll around on a regular basis. It’s not that difficult. This isn’t true for all endeavors, however. I tried my hand at learning to play the guitar once. I spent years doing it. I could never quite get it, so I quit. I got BJJ though and in this post, I discuss the ups and downs.
Minestrone Soup Recipe by Gino D’Acampo
Through the years I’ve come a long way with my food blogging. I’ve cracked the code when it comes to food photography and I’ve never had a complaint regarding my posts. I will admit though, they’re long. Super long, but that’s just because I like to write a lot and explain every single detail I can think of. In this post, I try out Gino D’Acampo’s minestrone soup recipe and bring you my results. I’ll say it right now - it was worth the effort. If you’re a minestrone soup lover, you’ll find this recipe to be a good one.
